The musical roots of Norah Jones's family run deep; her father is a famous Indian composer and sitarist, and her mother is a concert producer from New York. From an early age, she began to play the piano and sing in the church choir in her homeland of Texas. Because of her passion for music, she enrolled at the University of North Texas and became a jazz piano major. Joining the UNT Jazz Singers helped her develop her abilities. After relocating to New York, she put all of her knowledge and skills to use as a lounge singer and collaborator with other musicians.

Her initial collaborations with the singer-songwriter Jesse Harris were a success, with their recordings becoming best sellers. Jones was also able to perform alongside prominent artists like Wax Poetic, Peter Malick, and jazz guitarist Charlie Hunter. All these experiences became a training ground for the then-young artist's monumental debut album she would soon release.

"Come Away with Me" is one of Jazz music's most groundbreaking albums of all time. Reaching multiple platinum certifications in several countries and a diamond certification in Canada. The album introduced Jones to the world as a jazz and blues superstar.

Fast forward to over two decades later, Jones has sold more than 50 million albums worldwide, won nine Grammy awards, released several chart-topping songs, and produced nine albums. "Visions," her latest album, is released in March this year and explores another side of her artistry. In the words of the 44-year-old singer-songwriter, the album's central theme is "feeling free, wanting to dance, making it right, and acceptance of what life brings." This theme is exemplified by the lead single "Staring at the Wall," which preceded the release of the album.

"The reason I called the album Visions is because a lot of the ideas came in the middle of the night or in that moment right before sleep … where you're half asleep and kind of jolted awake," Jones says of the release.

As a support of the album, Jones will be embarking on a massive North American tour, which will take her to some of the most prominent venues in the US and Canada, including Illinois's Ravinia Pavilion, on July 14.
